The stories below show the kind of change we see in our work. To protect confidentiality, these are illustrative composites — they are not real individuals, and all names and details have been changed.
Play therapy: "Milo", age 6
Milo had become withdrawn and prone to sudden outbursts after a period of upheaval at home. Through weekly play therapy, he found a safe space to express feelings he didn't yet have words for. Over time, using toys and stories, he began to make sense of his experiences. His parents noticed calmer mornings and a little boy who was starting to smile again.
EMDR: "Aisha", age 14
Aisha struggled with intrusive memories and anxiety following a frightening event. Working with an EMDR therapist — an approach recommended by NICE for trauma — she gradually processed those memories so they lost their grip. Sleep improved, and she felt more able to focus at school and enjoy time with friends.
School support: "Year 4 pupil"
A primary school asked us to help a child whose behaviour was worrying staff. Alongside therapeutic support for the pupil, we offered reflective supervision and consultation to teachers. With a shared, trauma-informed understanding, the whole team could respond more consistently — and the child began to settle.
