Trauma therapy offers children and young people a safe, predictable space to process difficult experiences at their own pace. When something overwhelming has happened, feelings can become stuck, showing up as worry, anger, low mood, sleep difficulties or trouble concentrating. Therapy gently helps a child make sense of what they carry.
How we work
We match the approach to the child rather than the other way round. Depending on age, needs and preferences, this may include:
- Play therapy, where play becomes the child's natural language for expressing and working through experiences.
- EMDR, which is recommended by NICE for post-traumatic stress disorder.
- Creative arts therapies and integrative counselling for older children and young people.
Working alongside you
Parents and carers are important partners. With your child's agreement and appropriate to their age, we keep you involved and offer guidance so support continues at home. We work in a trauma-informed way, moving at a pace that feels manageable and never pushing a child to say more than they are ready to.
Sessions are available through our Uckfield and Milton Keynes centres and, where suitable, online. We offer reduced rates and free funded places so cost need not be a barrier.
