Common problems

Common difficulties children and young people face, and how therapy can help.

Families come to Origami Wings for many reasons. If something below sounds familiar, please know you are not alone, and support can help.

Difficulties we often help with

  • Anxiety and worry — including school-related fears, separation anxiety and difficulty sleeping.
  • Anger and big behaviour — outbursts, aggression or meltdowns that feel hard to manage at home or school.
  • Low mood and withdrawal — sadness, loss of interest, or a child who has become quiet and shut down.
  • The impact of trauma — the effects of frightening or overwhelming experiences.
  • Loss and bereavement — grief following the death of someone loved, or other significant losses.
  • Family change — separation, divorce, fostering, adoption or special guardianship.
  • Attachment difficulties — struggles with trust, closeness and feeling safe.
  • Friendship and social difficulties — including bullying and isolation.

How therapy can help

Children do not always have the words for what they feel. Through play, creativity and trusted relationships, therapy gives feelings a safe outlet and helps children build the tools to cope. We work with the adults around a child too, because lasting change grows from connection.
