Consultation

Trauma-informed consultation for families and professionals.

Consultation offers a dedicated thinking space to make sense of a particular child or situation. It is for parents, carers and professionals who want to understand what might be driving a child's feelings and behaviour, and to plan supportive, trauma-informed next steps — without the child necessarily being in therapy themselves.

Who it helps

  • Parents and carers puzzled or worried by a child's responses.
  • Teachers, teaching assistants and pastoral staff supporting a pupil.
  • Social workers, family support workers and other professionals around a family.

What happens

Together we look at the child's story, strengths and needs, and consider what their behaviour may be communicating. We think about attachment and trauma, relationships and environment, and agree practical strategies that fit the child's daily life. We may also help you identify what is already working well and build on it. Consultation can be a single conversation or an ongoing arrangement, depending on what would help, and we are happy to include several people around a child so everyone is working in the same direction.

It works well alongside clinical supervision for practitioners, and can be a helpful first step before deciding whether direct therapy is right for a child.
