How records are stored and secured
- Records are kept securely, with access limited to those who genuinely need it.
- Electronic records are held on password-protected, access-controlled systems.
- Paper records, where used, are kept in locked storage.
- Information is shared on a need-to-know basis and only where appropriate and lawful.
Confidentiality and its limits
What a child or family shares in therapy is treated as confidential and handled sensitively. However, confidentiality is not absolute. We may need to share information — including without consent — where there is a risk of harm to a child or another person, where the law requires it, or to meet our safeguarding duties. Wherever possible we explain this at the outset, so families understand how their information is handled and when we may need to act.
Concerns
If you are concerned about how your information has been handled, you can contact us, and you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
