This training offers an accessible introduction to attachment and trauma, and why they matter so much for children's learning, behaviour and relationships. Early experiences shape how children see themselves and others; when those experiences have been frightening or unpredictable, it can affect how a child copes at school and at home.
Who it is for
Anyone working with children and young people — teachers, teaching assistants, pastoral and inclusion staff, and other professionals or carers new to these ideas or wanting a refresher.
What you will learn
- The basics of attachment and why secure relationships matter.
- What we mean by trauma, and how it can affect the developing brain.
- How attachment and trauma can show up as behaviour in the classroom.
- Practical, relationship-based ways to help children feel safe and settle to learn.
Format
The session is interactive, with discussion and everyday examples that connect the ideas to real pupils. It can be delivered in person at your setting or online, and tailored to your team's starting point, from a whole-staff introduction to a more in-depth session.
