Training: Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)

Training on understanding and supporting children with FASD.

This training gives staff a clear, compassionate introduction to Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and how to support children affected by it. FASD is a lifelong condition caused by exposure to alcohol before birth, and understanding it well helps adults respond with patience and the right strategies rather than assuming a child is being "difficult".

Who it is for

Teachers, teaching assistants, SENCOs, pastoral staff, foster and kinship carers, and other professionals supporting children who may have FASD.

What you will learn

  • What FASD is: a spectrum of effects on the brain and body caused by prenatal alcohol exposure.
  • How it can affect learning, memory, attention, impulse control, emotional regulation and social understanding.
  • Why behaviour is often linked to underlying brain-based differences rather than deliberate choice.
  • Practical, strengths-based strategies to support children at school and at home.

Format

The session is interactive, with discussion and real-world examples. It can be delivered in person at your setting or online, and tailored to your context.
