Play is a child's natural language. Play therapy uses this to help children express, understand and work through feelings that can be hard to put into words. Guided by an accredited play therapist, it offers a gentle, developmentally appropriate route to healing.
Who it is for
Play therapy is especially helpful for younger children, and for any child who finds talking difficult. It can support children who are experiencing anxiety, big or confusing emotions, family change, loss, or the effects of difficult or traumatic experiences.
What sessions look like
Sessions take place in a safe, welcoming space stocked with carefully chosen toys, art materials, sand and other creative tools. The child leads their own play while the therapist offers warmth, attention and safe boundaries. Over time, themes in the play help the child process experiences and feel more in control.
How it helps
- A safe way to express and make sense of feelings.
- Reduced anxiety and distress.
- Improved confidence, self-regulation and relationships.
- A sense of being understood and supported.
Working together
Parents and carers are an important part of the process. We keep you involved and offer guidance on supporting your child at home, while protecting the confidentiality that makes the child's space feel safe.
